Local venue shows carry a distinct intensity, bringing audiences face-to-face with top-tier tribute acts and musicianship. Cardinal Broadcast was brought on to deliver high-impact video coverage for premier Eric Clapton tribute act Eric & The Claptones, capturing the raw passion and technical guitar work of their full live show.
To translate the venue’s atmosphere to the screen, we deployed an agile 4-camera setup designed to capture tight instrumental solos, audience engagement, and complete stage dynamics without intruding on the fan experience.
Delivering broadcast-quality video inside a live music venue requires close coordination with site technicians. Cardinal Broadcast managed the full multi-camera video architecture while collaborating directly with the venue’s front-of-house (FOH) sound engineers to capture direct multitrack audio feeds.
By combining pristine direct-board audio with dedicated ambient stage microphones, we achieved a rich, balanced mix that retained authentic crowd energy while isolating clean instrumentals.
4 – Camera Setup
To do justice to iconic guitar leads and stage interactions, our core focus was deploying a versatile 4-camera setup tailored to indoor venue dynamics:
2x Sony Fixed Cameras: Positioned strategically on heavy-duty tripods for wide stage coverage and reliable mid-shots of the entire band.
1x Sony Shallow Depth-of-Field Camera: Outfitted with fast cinema optics to deliver intimate close-ups of lead guitar work, vocal performances, and expression.
1x Roaming RF Camera: Moving fluidly around the stage periphery to capture dynamic angles, guitar solos, and audience reactions from unique perspectives.
Old Barn Theatre – Oxted
For the event, we strategically positioned the four cameras to cover every critical aspect of the performance:
Front-centre camera – This main camera captured the full band in a wide shot, ensuring the audience could take in the entire performance at once. It provided a stable, central view of the band, highlighting key moments when the whole group was playing together.
Close-up camera on drummer – we placed a second camera in close proximity to the Drummer this angle allowed capturing the soul and beat of the performance.
Side-stage camera – To add variety and dynamism, we positioned a third camera off to the side of the stage. This camera focused on the interaction between band members, providing an interesting angle of the bassist, drummer, and rhythm guitarist. It gave viewers a sense of the band’s chemistry and unity, which is crucial for any tribute band recreating the synergy of the original artist.
Crowd and atmosphere camera – Finally, the fourth camera was dedicated to capturing the atmosphere on stage and capturing special moments with the band on stage. This angle really helped to add energy to the video.

RF Roaming Camera Operator: Navigating the venue space to capture spontaneous moments, solos, and crowd interaction.
Technical Director: Overseeing live video monitoring, vision switching, and raw ISO feed recording to ensure every angle was captured cleanly.

Our company has had the privilege of collaborating with Sofar Sounds for over nine years. We provided exceptional lighting, audio, and filming services for various events during this time. Sofar Sounds YouTube channel boasts numerous high-quality videos that we have produced throughout the years. We got to film in many locations with Sofar sounds in Southampton, Winchester and Brighton, to name a few.

During our events, we had the privilege of collaborating with highly talented artists, including Temples of Youth, Ward Thomas, Fond of Rudy, Ryan Greaves, and Danni Nicholls.
The premise for the whole event was to capture the sounds of the room, so each shoot was unique. For example, one day, we could be shooting in a library with TheRealRaj in Southampton, while the next day, we could be at a festival set up with sofas with Ward Thomas in Winchester. This approach kept things fresh and exciting

as we worked in various locations ranging from record stores, bookshops, libraries, and living rooms to outdoor festivals. We made sure that no venue was off-limits as long as there were sofas available.
