Tape Transfer & Capture

Tape transfer and capture involve digitizing analogue recordings and preserving content by converting them into digital formats for modern playback and archiving.

One Inch
VCR

One-inch VCR, a magnetic tape format, revolutionized broadcast in the ’70s. Its high-quality recordings were pivotal in early television production, shaping visual storytelling.

Film
Capture

Film capture preserves moments on analogue film, capturing rich textures and timeless charm, offering a distinct aesthetic unattainable through digital methods.

Every professional film capture and tape transfer project undergoes rigorous quality control.

Yes. We provide complete professional film capture, tape transfer, and ingest services for all international television standards, including PAL (UK/Europe), NTSC (North America/Japan), and SECAM (France/Eastern Europe), across all tape formats we handle.

Yes. Magnetic tapes (especially 1-inch, Betacam, and U-matic) that exhibit binder hydrolysis or sticky-shed syndrome undergo controlled thermal treatment (tape baking) in accordance with IASA-TC 06 preservation standards before playback to ensure safe, signal-loss-free digitisation.

We deliver uncompressed 10-bit video, Apple ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 4444, and DPX image sequences with full timecode retention for editing and archiving. We can also generate lightweight H.264/MP4 proxy files for quick web access.

Absolutely. Cardinal Broadcast operates calibrated, studio-grade 1-inch VCR decks, paired with hardware Time Base Correctors (TBCs), to guarantee frame-accurate ingest and signal stabilisation for legacy 1-inch C-Format tapes.

Our film scanning pipeline utilises high-dynamic-range (HDR) optical scanners to digitise 16mm, Super 16, 8mm, 9.5mm, and Super 8 motion picture film frame-by-frame. The workflow includes native colour correction, optical dust/scratch reduction, and archival frame stabilisation.

Yes. For all professional broadcast formats (Betacam SP, DigiBeta, HDCAM SR, 1-inch), we extract and preserve the native vertical interval timecode (VITC) or longitudinal timecode (LTC) to ensure seamless post-production sync.

Turnaround depends on media volume, physical condition, and required prep work (such as cleaning or thermal baking). Emergency broadcast ingest turnarounds are available upon request—contact our team for a custom quote and schedule.
